As many of you know, we have been working creatively in the Saharawi refugee camps since 2010. Before COVID, our work focused on training and supporting a group of young photographers in the camps. While the pandemic interrupted our in-person visits, over the past two years we have continued our commitment by touring the UK in partnership with Amnesty International—exhibiting our students’ work and raising awareness of the Saharawi cause.

In October 2025, Emma and new Olive Brancher Alice will return to the camps (with Becky supporting and organising here in the UK while on adoption leave) to deliver an intensive photographic teacher training course. This next step will equip the young photographers we’ve been mentoring to become teachers themselves, sharing their skills with school children in the camps. Alongside this training, Emma and Alice will also facilitate creative photography sessions directly with the children, nurturing both confidence and creativity.

This work will be carried out in partnership with Sandblast Arts’ inspiring Desert Voicebox project, which has established a music and English school in the camps. By linking with Desert Voicebox, our young photographers will have the opportunity to build sustainable futures—teaching locally, sharing their skills, and inspiring the next generation.

During the visit, Emma, Alice, and the Saharawi photographers will also take part in the Cultural Festival organised by arts charity Artifariti. These events, held in solidarity with the Saharawi community, bring together an international audience—providing a powerful platform for our young photographers to exhibit their work and share their stories with the world.

We’re delighted to say that we’ve already raised over £1,900 of the £3,700 needed to make this project happen through various events over the last year. This cabaret evening is about raising the final £1,800 to complete the job—bringing our vision to life and ensuring the next chapter of this work can unfold in the camps.

Every ticket, donation, and share brings us closer to our target!
